I am concerned that my 2006 Toyota Camry is not on the recall list. While reversing out of a parking place the car accelerated in reverse and crashed into a tree then the engine roared and surged forward back into the parking area with trees I had just reversed out of. My foot was firmly on the brake the whole time. The car slammed into trees below, right and front of the car. When my vehicle did come to a stop it was in neutral with the tires dug deeply into the ground. There is no time to react to this type of deadly speed acceleration. The damage to the vehicle was in excess of $5600.00, my insurance doubled and I am lucky to be alive and that I did not kill someone in the parking lot. The crash was at such a high speed that even after repair the car is not restored to pre accident conditions. I have called Toyota and my Dealership about this issue and was told sorry the 2006 Camry is not on the recall list. My car has depreciated quickly in value because of this defect. I feel as if I am taking a chance with my life and the life of my child each time I drive this car because you can not get the car into neutral fast enough to avoid a crash. I have also found many other sudden acceleration complaints and accidents for 2006 Camry and other year models. I think this Toyota recall is excluding certain year models due to the huge numbers involved. These numbers are lives and this is a DEADLY safety issue.

We are so disapponted in Toyota. We purchased an Avolon thinking that we were paying extra for a quality car. Now that quality is gone with the value of our car and investment. We are afraid to use the car to take passengers outside of our family, because Toyota has extended their problem to my legal liability. Our social life has been greatly affected by not allowing our friends to ride in our car. Our driving attitude is now changed from a safe ride to an uneasy feeling waiting for a car accident. How can Toyota make this up to me? I have a $500, 30,000 mi maintainance now due and why would I put $500 dollars into this car.? Toyota owes the people that believed in them a lot.

@Pedro
You can call the Toyota Customer Care hotline and tell your story but dealers can only get reimbursed for cars included on the official recall list.

I have heard enough through the media about the Toyota recall and the controversy surrounding it all. I have concluded that Toyota is being intentionally smeared by a certain political party and its mainstream allies. I’m of course talking about the Democrats. I’m 57 years old. Down through the years have heard of a good number of American car manufactures as well as European car companies having to engage in product recalls. This is nothing new. Now Toyota is involved in a recall, it is the end of the world! I do not own a Toyota at this time but when the time comes for a new truck or car I will seriously consider one. I reject being manipulated by the government and media when making buying decisions.
It is very suspicious when the Obama administration and his media lackeys join together to attack Toyota when considering that GM and Chrysler is now under the domination of the government. How self serving! I don’t buy it! Their ulterior motives are obvious. I believe Toyota needs to fight back and win public opinion. Toyota has been around for many years and has built many fine products. Their track record should prove who is on the right side of this PR battle. Hang tough Toyota!

I had not had any problems with my car.
I am very happy with it.
Ron Brooks Ltd. performed the adjustment at the same time as the annual service.
They could not have been more helpful. They collected the car and returned it to me washed and valeted.

I own a a Toyota Camry 2001 LE model and this is not included in the stickey acceralor pedal recall but my car is experiencing this problem. My pedal will stuck and I have to push really hard to get it to go whem I'm stop at the traffic light which is really concerning me the safety of the car. I took the car to the dealer and they are charging me for the service. Since this is a safety concern I'm I responsible to pay for this Service?. Or maybe Toyota has to look up the later models also if mine is doing the same problem as the most recent models.

The accelerator problem on my 2008 Yaris was recently attended to by Benfield Motors in Wakefield. I was unaware that there was a problem, as my car had been performing perfectly well.
The staff at Benfield were rxtremely courteous and helpful, and fixed the "problem" quite quickly and without any fuss.
The car was valetted and washed before being returned to me

I took my Toyota Yaris for recall repairs on 18/2/10 and was very impressed by the courteous and efficient staff at Western Toyota, Sighthill, Edinburgh. My car was valeted, washed and repaired with the hour.

Tired about hearing about Toyota recalls. I would like to know why the meadia is making such a big deal about Toyota recalls. I have owned Toyotas for years and they have been almost trouble free. I have had two Toyota's recalled over the years, one was a T100 truck recalled after seven years to change a gasket. The other was on my tundra witch I got in 2000 and now in 2010 they want to check for some rust that might cause some damage. That is what I call good service. Over the past few years the north american car manufactures have had all kinds of recalles witch you might hear on the news or you might not. And if you do hear it on the news you don't hear it day after day. Now I ask why the big deal with Toyota recalls? Sounds like propaganda to me. Doug

Yes. Going to the dealership I bought my new 2010 from tomorrow and demanding they take it back. I want a full refund. Why would I want to invest 30,000 in a 2010 vehicle that has already lost resale value in Feb/2010???

I am so fed up with my Corolla. It is the first new car I have ever owned and it has had 2 recalls in 2 months. And on top of that I just heard there might be another one to do with power steering! I have had to take this BRAND NEW car into the shop more times since I've bought it then my old beater!!! Is there a way to get out of the lease becuase of all these crappy recalls? Basically becuase they sold me a dud car, not what I was agreeing to when I leased it.

I can't help but think that Toyota was in such a rush to take over the market with the GM and Ford collapse last year that they slapped together cheap, crappy cars. What BS.

Not only will the brand name be tarnished but I will never buy a car from the dealer from which I have purchased
Two cars from in the past. I read what some dealers are doing to help customer with the recall. I was told that my 2009 Camry XLE would have wait repair until I received recall letter. Dealer made no effort to contact customers and refused to return calls from local paper.

I bought a Siena van and found the hinge of driver side doors was broken inside the door. When I drove to the dealer, they told me they would repair it free of charge because this defect was existing before delivery. I lived in Japan over 10 years and now in Canada. I will not buy any Toyota cars in future. My friends, relatives, alumni, all one if consulting me before buying a car, will not buy Toyota cars forever. This is just because I loved Toyota and it betrayed me. Toyota should have let us know this problem when we go to the dealer for normal maitenance. If Toyota want to cheated us, actually Toyota is ruining itself.

@Mike

Regarding your Solara, it does not appear on the official press release which you can read here http://www.toyotarecall.org/official-press-release/press-release-february-1-2010/

If you are still concerned, you can call Toyota directly.

@R Tepper
Toyota says that they will be mailing out letters to all cars included in the recall but there is no guarantee that you will get the letter if your address is not correct in their database. I would call the Toyota hotline to confirm that your VIN#'s are in their database with the correct mailing address.

When will my 2008 Camry and my 2009 Corolla be called in and fixed. Are the fixes going to fix the real problem???? How long do I have to drive these cars before they will fixed and why must I risk my family's lives while I wait?

I have a 2008 Prius with 49,000 Kms. on it. I bought it new in Canada. My problem is with winter driving and braking on light snow. Recently, with a light snowfall on the roads, while trying to slow down and get ready to turn, at every corner the vehicle seems to start sliding and do it's own thing, going across the road and increasing in speed. The ABS system does NOT seem to be working all the time. The car is not controllable. The speeds are around 10 t0 20 MPH. Does anyone else have a similar issue?

Honestly I am not surprised at Toyota and these problems. In the past as a car salesman I would research all makes and models to be a better salesman for my customers. While doing this research I came across a really good website. www.safercar.gov is run my the NHSTB and will show recalls and crash test ratings. Having two boys I wanted the safest cars for my wife and I to drive. I can say that owning 7 Fords I have only had one problem. I bought a 2006 Ford Mustang 5 speed. I had an issue getting into second gear. I knew what the problem was so I was not upset. A syncro went bad which is no big deal. Without any arguing the dealer fixed in within a matter of days. The fact is that Consumer Reports would just give Toyota a preferred rating cause it is a Toyota. However if you do your research the gas pedal has been an issue for several years now. Finally the NHSTB is looking into Toyota and I am sure more bad news is on its way. You can buy a Ford or Chevy and get a quality vehicle that you can be proud of.

I have a 2006 Toyota Matrix. I had incidents four times where I had my foot on the brake pedal and the motor kept racing and the car kept lunging forward. Three of the incidents were extremely dangerous situations. I had brought the car to a local mechanic who saw nothing wrong. When I called the Toyota dealership they said my car was not on the recall list.
I need to have this car repaired before I am killed or hurt someone else. How can I get this accomplished?

I am the owner of a 2008 Toyota Camry. I have been complaining to my local dealership of problems with my vehicle. I was contacted on 13 February 2010 to bring my vehicle in to have the recall repairs fixed.

On 28 January 2010, I was involved in an accident where I was unable to slow or stop my acceleration into an inclined merge. This resulted in an accident, a serious injury to me and lost time from my job. As a single parent, safety has always been my utmost priority when purchasing vehicles. My purchase of a Toyota vehicle was based on this primary principle. At this time, I have graves concerns with the safety of my car regardless of fixes in place to correct any problems. What is Toyota doing about customers such as myself? I am terrified to drive my car or have my children ride with me. What am I suppose to do now? Accept that Toyota has solved the problems? Continue driving the vehicle even AFTER I have suffered the consequences of their failed engineering designs? As a consumer, and parent, I want a better resolution!

Approx 98% of Toyota owners will not be critical of Toyota. If both rear wheels were falling off, these owners would still buy Toyota. I owned a Toyota and it was a good but not perfect car. US regulators have shielded Toyota for years. Six months from now this will be old news.

I own a 2004 Sequoia. When new it failed to accelerate in traffic several times. The throttle DID NOT respond. When I complained, Toyota told me “Toyota does not build bad cars. It is operating as it was designed." They also claimed that this happened on “non-ideal road conditions and was to be expected”. I claimed that it is a full size SUV designed for off road operation and should not need perfect road conditions to operate. Toyota covered this up then by refusing to acknowledge the problem. It is still a danger and requires special driving skills to assure great distances when pulling into traffic. Additionally it is useless off road. With the slightest slippery condition, loose gravel or uneven surface, the throttle shuts down and the car will not move. It requires engaging the 4 wheel lock, in low range, to get it to move. The dealer Jack Safro was not my advocate. They conspired with Toyota to cover up this condition.

I assume the screwdriver was being used to center the small metal plate after insertion.

Video might have been improved by providing a sound/voice description of the work being done by the mechanic.

There was no information how this "fixed" the problem.

But the information given is appreciated.

I love my ‘07 Tundra! I just had the pedal recall repair done 5 days ago. From the second I drove it off the lot I noticed the feel of the pedal was very uncomfortable. It’s like driving with a hair trigger. When I hit the slightest bump in the road the truck accelerates because the action on the pedal is so light it’s hard to keep the RPMs stable. This fix is NOT adequate. On even a moderately bumpy road the truck lurches forward as the pedal bounces up and down with weight of my foot...it is almost impossible to maintain even speed or RPMs with this fix. I hate the feel of the pedal action now.

Toyota has a big problem on their hands because they quit listening to customers and quality control people and only listened to their lawyers. What is Toyota going to give me for the time that I must spend sitting around at a dealership that can never meet repair schedules and could care less.

Hi. Just would like to put my Input on the TOYOTA RECALL SITUATION!
I have had 3 toyota cars and I would continue to buy them. I had 2 when I lived in california, I drove it and both my kids drove it. It got so many miles on it, I wanted to trade it in for a new on. I had that one for about 6 years, then moved to colorado and we thought we would need a 4 wheel drive, so traded the toyota in for a Yukon 4 wheel drive. had it for 2 years and decided I missed the toyota and went and bought another one and 5 years later I am still driving it and I LOVE IT!
I have never had better service with any other dealer and I will never drive anything else. They stand by their product and they are as human as you and I. so give them a break!
Oh and I didn't tell you, my son had a toyota truck when he was 17. had 4 accidents with it and toyota did the repairs, he traded it in on a new one after over 300,000 miles and thats no joke. We got a recall on the first toyota, took it in and they fixed the problem, no charge to me. Now that is service, concern and dedicated dealership that I have never encountered before. so before you start judging them, think about what they are trying to do now to solve the problems. GIVE THEM A BREAK!!!!!!!

Sincerely:
A Colorado Resident

My 2001 Avalon had real quality and when I sold it and bought a 2008 Avalon I was disappointed from day one. I never got notification regarding this accelerator problem so called today and made an appointment. I will soon be getting rid of it and will not buy another Toyota anytime soon. They have gotten complacent and stopped improving their product. The paint job is pathetic on my 2008 compared to the 2001, it chips easily. Lip service and bowing in public does not cover up the mismanagement.

It was impacted before the recall but now it is in the tank. My 2008 Avalon Limited's "quality" is way below my 2001 Avalon. I will not buy another based on the slide. The paint job is pathetic. I am very disappointed and have been since I bought it. Toyota got complacent. They stopped improving. I will be getting rid of this car soon. I have yet to get notification in the mail regarding the recall, they really only care about profit it seems. Lip service and bowing does not fix problems and create a feeling of wanting to try their product again anytime soon.

I don't think the problem is with a sticky gas pedal. If it were stuck it would stay at the same speed, not accelerate. I'm no genius, but that doesn't make since to me. I bought an 08 Sequoia and spent $50,000. I expected more for my money!!! You would think Toyota's mechanics could figure it out. From the other comments I've read concerning this, I'm not the only one that thinks it's electrical, not the pedal sticking.

2004 Toyotta Highlander: Purchased new. At approx. 10,000 miles I was driving and had a sudden acceleration that very nearly resulted in a collision.( The BRAKES worked very well.) This was my wifes primary vehicle, she had previously complained of BOTH, pauses in accelleration and sudden unpredictable, but fortunately small accelerations. All of those previous experiences were much less dramatic. And totally beyond our ability to replicate or predict. Honestly, until it happened to me, I had doubted the significance of her, (at that point) frustration.

We were together when the "big" event happened. I called Toyota USA immediately. I drove to the dealer where we purchased the car. I called another dealer/service center. NO ONE seemed interested. Finally after multiple calls, a service mgr from the dealer where we purchased the car called back and told us that Toyota was aware of a "computer" problem and technicians were working on a solution and that we would be recieving a service bulletin in the next couple of months. That was in 2004. That was the last we heard from Toyota. (Well, other than offers to sell us accessories, service deals, or a new vehicle...)

I was concerned enough that I filed a complait with the NTSB. I have copies of letters I sent to Toyota that include the NTSB file number.

This was in 2004. Although my letters do not identify the specific web sites, I also mentioned that many other people were describing (on line) similar experiences with their Highlanders. Again, in 2004.

We owned the vehicle until December 2009. Although we never had a repeat of the dramatic acceleration again, we did continue to experience the lesser, and admittedly infrequent, pauses and surges.
And although I regularly inquired over the years we had the car, there was never a fix announced, nor (beyond that one time comment from a service manager) even an acknowledgement of an awareness of the problem.

I just experienced an acceleration problem in my 2009 Corolla. I had braked to a complete stop and my foot remained on the brake pedal. The engine rpm's were at idle speed. The engine suddenly rev'ed up with no input on the pedal. I shifted to neutral and as I was about to turn the ignition off, the engine went back to normal idle speed. That was not a mechanical event. The accelerator pedal was not involved. It did not stick and had not been depressed. I have been giving Toyota the benefit of the doubt, but at this point I am concerned that this is a electronics or software problem. Some input told my car to accelerate and it did not come from the accelerator pedal. I think most Toyota customers are willing to stand by Toyota and Toyota can certainly recover its reputation, but not if this mechanical fix is not the fix. Make sure you have this right or a great company will be lost. hj

Wait and see if you get a recall letter in the mail. I would call Toyota to make sure that they have your correct mailing address in their database immediately.

My father in law has a 2007 Corolla, bought new from the dealer in Westport, CT. He has taken the car in twice for a sticking accelerator and was told that it was not mechanical but was due to the way he drives. What should he do?

Why doesn't Toyota tell consumers some defensive measures/maneuvers in stopping a vehicle when the accelerator sticks. Such as applying the emergency brake in unison with turning the engine/key off then turning the key back to the on position to muscle the steering and bringing the car to a halt, or down shifting to second and low even with automatics.

I understand the emergency brake will fail burn out eventually. I understand the risk of turning the ignition off to turn off the engine and locking the steering column, plus any steering/control you might have left after shutting the engine off and putting the key back into to the on position to unlock the steering column.

Now in down shifting the transmission would it blow the engine or transmission thus at least disabling acceleration. A better chance/odds of surviving rather than receiving the fate of the off duty police officer and his family(RIP).

I once had a truck I took into my regular mechanic, an 1986 with a carburetor. A buddy of mine was following me with it when he flashed his lights for me to stop. He said the gas pedal was sticking. Without looking under the hood because it was only 3 miles back to the shop I started driving it back. Sure enough the pedal stuck and after several attempts at slamming the gas pedal it wouldn't release. Luckily I was on a straight road, no hills, hardly any traffic but no shoulder to pull off. I turned the key off shut down the engine an quickly turned the key back on and was able to muscle the truck into a 90 degree turn on to a side road between 30 and 35 MPH. Popped the hood to find out the mechanic hadn't tie rapped a line out of the way and it got hung up on the accelerator arm. Needless to say I never used that mechanic again.

One might think Toyota wouldn't want to offer any of the above suggestions due to further legalities, but what's better a chance of survival and injury or death. The accelerator could stick, also, taking it in to the dealer. One death is one to many.

Now I'm not suggesting the above is a solution to anyone caught up with an accelerator problem, such as Toyota's, since I'm by no means an expert. Just wondering if there's any experts out there to help?

The TV and papers are having a field day.
Toyota have held their hand up and admitted problem.
I am assured other Manufacturers use the same parts, come on the rest of you get your hands up !
Toyota has always been the car in front even at putting their hand up.
Why not visit the Government car recalls site for your make/model.
Vehicle recalls Toyota not neary the worst.

I hope someone could please read this and try to help me get the word out to Toyota and others who may have had the same problem I've had with my 2009 Corolla. I just know this problem with the gas pedal HAS TO BE ELECTRICAL, as a few months after I bought my Corolla, I started it with my foot on the brake, as usual, in park. I was doing all the normal things when starting a car. The thing immediately revved up to max, just when the motor started. It frightened me to death. I was so startled and embarrassed, as I thought I may have put my foot on the gas before putting in reverse. But, if I had, it would not have been pushed to the floor and revving up like that. I just chalked it off as I must of done something, as it was a car I was not used to yet.
About 3 months later, it wouldn't start and sounded like it was going to rip apart inside the motor, like metal on metal. It had to be towed to dealer. They recalibrated the computer. Then I went on a trip and I noticed that when I would take my foot off the gas pedal, rather than slowing down, it would actually surge before I put my foot on brake. Now this was intermittent. But, that day, I was going a road with very dangerous hills and curves, so I noticed it more. I came right straight home to the dealer. They found nothing.
I've not been able to go anywhere but the doctor and grocery store, as I'm frightened to death. If it wasn't for this recall, I would just be hanging out here afraid to take anyone with me in the car if I do go. Now, I still think they are just "patching" the problem with the wrong fix. Because, what car would have the gas pedal hang, before you even put your foot on it, and especially with the computer having to be recalibrated. I do know that the throttle body, which has something to do with the gas pedal, is controlled by the computer.
SO PLEASE SOMEONE LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THESE CARS AND TRY AND BELIEVE US. PEOPLE COMPLAINING DID NOT CAUSE THE DEFECT. I'm going to go ahead and let them do what they think is necessary to fix it, but I have no faith in the fix.
People think we are all complaining, just to start law suits. What good is that going to do? Not going to help us drive a safer car, convince people to ride with us, or prevent the value of our car from decreasing and our insurance increasing. Neither will it do any good to give us another new car or leased car. They are all not to be trusted in my opinion. WE'RE STUCK!!!!!!

Hello

I'm seeking some advice/information. I have a Toyota Avensis T2 5dr 2.0 UK 58.

The problem I'm having may or may not be to do with the accelerator, but you can imagine with all the news I'm starting to wonder...

I'm not experiencing any of the jumps, or surges that people are reporting, but when I take my foot off the accelerator, the car does slow down, but then as it does, it's as if the engine itself carries on driving the car forward. As if the engine is creating it's own momentum, even though, I'm not pressing the gas pedal. So I'll approach a roundabout, take my foot off the pedal, the car will slow down to a certain point and then the engine itself sort of creates the power to take the car round the roundabout; if I don't de-clutch the car would carry on going without my having to press the gas. Is this the pedeal problem, or is it something else? Apolgies for the non-technical explanation - I don't really understand cars.

Thanks
