Tired about hearing about Toyota recalls. I would like to know why the meadia is making such a big deal about Toyota recalls. I have owned Toyotas for years and they have been almost trouble free. I have had two Toyota’s recalled over the years, one was a T100 truck recalled after seven years to change a gasket. The other was on my tundra witch I got in 2000 and now in 2010 they want to check for some rust that might cause some damage. That is what I call good service. Over the past few years the north american car manufactures have had all kinds of recalles witch you might hear on the news or you might not. And if you do hear it on the news you don’t hear it day after day. Now I ask why the big deal with Toyota recalls? Sounds like propaganda to me. Doug
I bought a Siena van and found the hinge of driver side doors was broken inside the door. When I drove to the dealer, they told me they would repair it free of charge because this defect was existing before delivery. I lived in Japan over 10 years and now in Canada. I will not buy any Toyota cars in future. My friends, relatives, alumni, all one if consulting me before buying a car, will not buy Toyota cars forever. This is just because I loved Toyota and it betrayed me. Toyota should have let us know this problem when we go to the dealer for normal maitenance. If Toyota want to cheated us, actually Toyota is ruining itself.
@Mike
Regarding your Solara, it does not appear on the official press release which you can read here http://www.toyotarecall.org/official-press-release/press-release-february-1-2010/
If you are still concerned, you can call Toyota directly.
@R Tepper
Toyota says that they will be mailing out letters to all cars included in the recall but there is no guarantee that you will get the letter if your address is not correct in their database. I would call the Toyota hotline to confirm that your VIN#’s are in their database with the correct mailing address.
When will my 2008 Camry and my 2009 Corolla be called in and fixed. Are the fixes going to fix the real problem???? How long do I have to drive these cars before they will fixed and why must I risk my family’s lives while I wait?
my car is toyota yaris 2006 model in ireland.i have problem with my gear,i have this problem when i bought this car itself.i am afraid is this problem related to current issues.
Is the 2008 Solara recalled??
I have a Toyota Aygo purchased in 2008 VIN JTDKG18C10N276604

@Steve Davies
I would call the Toyota Customer Experience hotline at 1-800-331-4331.
@Richard
The official recall announcement which is posted on this website under press releases only names the 2010 Toyota Prius in this recall.
Why doesn’t Toyota tell consumers some defensive measures/maneuvers in stopping a vehicle when the accelerator sticks. Such as applying the emergency brake in unison with turning the engine/key off then turning the key back to the on position to muscle the steering and bringing the car to a halt, or down shifting to second and low even with automatics.
I understand the emergency brake will fail burn out eventually. I understand the risk of turning the ignition off to turn off the engine and locking the steering column, plus any steering/control you might have left after shutting the engine off and putting the key back into to the on position to unlock the steering column.
Now in down shifting the transmission would it blow the engine or transmission thus at least disabling acceleration. A better chance/odds of surviving rather than receiving the fate of the off duty police officer and his family(RIP).
I once had a truck I took into my regular mechanic, an 1986 with a carburetor. A buddy of mine was following me with it when he flashed his lights for me to stop. He said the gas pedal was sticking. Without looking under the hood because it was only 3 miles back to the shop I started driving it back. Sure enough the pedal stuck and after several attempts at slamming the gas pedal it wouldn’t release. Luckily I was on a straight road, no hills, hardly any traffic but no shoulder to pull off. I turned the key off shut down the engine an quickly turned the key back on and was able to muscle the truck into a 90 degree turn on to a side road between 30 and 35 MPH. Popped the hood to find out the mechanic hadn’t tie rapped a line out of the way and it got hung up on the accelerator arm. Needless to say I never used that mechanic again.
One might think Toyota wouldn’t want to offer any of the above suggestions due to further legalities, but what’s better a chance of survival and injury or death. The accelerator could stick, also, taking it in to the dealer. One death is one to many.
Now I’m not suggesting the above is a solution to anyone caught up with an accelerator problem, such as Toyota’s, since I’m by no means an expert. Just wondering if there’s any experts out there to help?
Hello
I have a Prius, registered Oct 2009 – MV59 WOX. Is it on the recall list for the braking issue?
regards
Richard
Hello
I’m seeking some advice/information. I have a Toyota Avensis T2 5dr 2.0 UK 58.
The problem I’m having may or may not be to do with the accelerator, but you can imagine with all the news I’m starting to wonder…
I’m not experiencing any of the jumps, or surges that people are reporting, but when I take my foot off the accelerator, the car does slow down, but then as it does, it’s as if the engine itself carries on driving the car forward. As if the engine is creating it’s own momentum, even though, I’m not pressing the gas pedal. So I’ll approach a roundabout, take my foot off the pedal, the car will slow down to a certain point and then the engine itself sort of creates the power to take the car round the roundabout; if I don’t de-clutch the car would carry on going without my having to press the gas. Is this the pedeal problem, or is it something else? Apolgies for the non-technical explanation – I don’t really understand cars.
Thanks
I have a Toyota Avensis T3-S 2.0 D-4D 2005 April registered vehicle. The vehicle reg is FG05 HLZ, VEN number SB1DW56L20E.
Please can you confirm if this vehicle is a effected by the curren recall ?
I am about to purchase a 2003 toyota Rav4 extreme aca21r. Is this vehicle affected by the recall?
@Richard,
According to the latest press release that year is not included, see this article: http://www.toyotarecall.org/official-press-release/press-release-february-5th/
Sirs is my 2005 Matrix on the recall list? Thank You
@Beverly
Did you check that the Toyota database had your correct mailing address in their system so that the letter could be mailed?
I have a 2007 Camry and spoke with the service manager of Toyota of Richardson and was told that I would receive a letter about the recall. My car did a “run-away” the first year I had it. I have not heard from the service manager or Toyota. When will this problem be fixed? It seems there is a lack of concern or follow-up
on what I was told. How long should I be waiting to get my car fixed?
@Ruby
If your vehicle is not in the recall list, contact the NHTSA and register the accident to be investigated. The recall list may grow as this problem gets wider scrutiny.
@Elly
For now, older models are not included on the recall.
I purchased an 09′ Corolla after having extensive back surgery and could no longer get easily in and out of my Scion TC. I purchased the Corolla because the Toyota line was supposed to be sooo safe. In researching the recall I noticed that this pedal assembly has been in use for at least 5 yrs on some models. I ask how it could take such a safety minded company so long to admit there was a problem??? I traded-in the Corolla yesterday. Value on the Corolla is dropping daily and it’s only a year old, unbelievable.. I’m 100% disabled and really couldn’t afford to but I asked myself is it worth the risk? Could I live with myself if I ran over and killed an innocent? The trade in value on my Corolla was only half of what I had left remaining owed, but with rebates and a discount for trading out of the Toyota, I barely escaped a negative equity situation. I personally don’t feel a shim on the accelerator mounting bracket will fix the issue. I would like to see the research that was done to rule out the ECM computer………
I have a 1998 corola and ’99 camary. Should I be worried and have them checked or is the recall only for the later models
I PURCHASED A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA FROM AL HENDRICKSON TOYOTA IN COCO NUT CREEK FLORIDA . NOT SOON AFTER I NOTICED MY GAS PEDAL AS BEING VERY SENSITIVE TO A POINT WHERE I WOULD NOT LET ANYONE DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK FOR AN INSPECTION AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND THAT MY VEHICLE WAS “MADE FOR RACING”.. OF COURSE THIS IS NOT WHY I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE.. AS TIME WHEN ON I BECAME MORE AND MORE CONCERNED IT BECAME VERY AGGRAVATING.. TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO AL HENDRICKSON AND EXPLAINED I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE NO LONGER.. THEY EXPLAINED AFTER LOOKING AT HTE VEHICLE AGAIN TO BE PATIENT. THAT “THERE WILL BE SOMETHING COMING OUT ABOUT THIS” I WAITED UNTIL MY NEXT OIL CHANGE AND TOOK MY VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALRSHIP[ DELRAY TOYOTA]AND OF COURSE I EXPLIANED MY PROBLEM BUT THEY ALSO FOUND NOTHING WRONG .. NOW I FEEL ONE BIG HUGE COVERUP… I DONT EVEN WANT TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE HELP ME OUT
TWO WEEKS AGO MY GAS PEDAL STUCK AND CAUSED ME TO GO OVER A MONTAIN AND TOTALED MY CAR. THE NEXT DAY THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED. I HAD A 2002 RAVA4.COULD THIS BE ANYWAY CONNECTED?
Is there a recall on ’05 sienna LE
@Ervin
I would take your car to a local Toyota repair center to have the car checked. I would also contact the Toyota Customer Care Center to report your specific problem.
@All
Tell us what you think of Jim Lentz’s video to Toyota owners that we just posted here:
http://www.toyotarecall.org/20100202-toyota-recall-video-jim-lentz/
It seems at this time Toyota plans to repair faulty gas pedals.What if Iwant mine replaced with one that has been working properly,since this repair has not been time tested?How am I to know how long it will last?
I own a 2003 Matrix. My gas petal got stuck as I was aproaching a major highway in 2004. I was able to get it unstuck by alternating hitting the brakes and tapping the gas. I didn’t realize that it was the gas petal that got stuck by itself and assumed either the mat interfered or a rock or something got stuck. Now it is obvious that it was poor quality on your part. Why is it not on the recall list? Just how much danger am I in that it will happen again and maybe cause someone to be injured or killed? Please respond to this as soon as you can. I am afraid to drive it or worse, allow my wife to drive it after I saw what was happening.
I have had two instances of sudden excelleration while parked in my 2005 Toyota Tacoma. I notified the Dealer in each case and they implied that I caused the problem. Why isn’t my truck listed for recall? I plan to take my truck to the local dealer and ask him to identify the maker of the gas pedal mechanism. If I have a CTS gas pedal, I will requst the Dealer to replace it. If he refuses, I will sell the car and never buy another Toyota.
Does the recall involve the 2003 Highlander,because the emergenice brake cables seizedup.
